Before Sunrise

A dark clock face is standing tall, silently as a ghost. The shadow wished there was more to life than hiding away. Slowly and cautiously he crept into the outside world.

Sad lonely eyes are lit up by the clear shining moon. He has a slim skinny neck like a pencil and body like a stick. On top of his head there is a black tuft that points to the sky.   Alone, walking through the town, his eyes are stunned at what he sees. They are pale white and beaming.  Where is he going?  What is he searching for?

Gingerbread houses gloom out of the distant shadows.  The balconies are small and the doors are oval shape.  The statue warrior sits on the fountain in the centre of the courtyard, with trumpet statues making water come out magically.

A sudden glow of light  streams out of a window. It looks like treasure. He wants to explore further.  He starts creeping to the shop to take a look at what it is.  Once he’s in the shop he is surrounded by stacks and stacks of books. The stacks look like wobbly staircases. He is astonished.

The bright glowing candle catches his attention. He is overwhelmed.  She turned her head shyly looking away. Her eye lashes fluttered out tiny fairy dust like golden stars.  The candle burns his hand and he walks away.

Suddenly he feels the candle being whooshed out, and he is completely horrified and is in despair. He collapses to the round base of the candles heart. The shadow is filled with fear.  The candle smoke is swirling, tumbling, and dancing and emerging into a shadow. She falls gracefully into a little sleep. The candle sits up and looks confusingly at herself.  The shadow is delighted.

Out of the shadows - Liam

The clock face is shining out of the enveloping shadow.
The white shining angel stands guard over the village as they rest. The houses have got beautiful curly, whirly doors, but in the secret darkness hides a shadow.

He has bright droopy eyes glowing with the sparkling moon. His big head is long and oval like the shape of an egg. A tuft is curling and pointing up. Don't you dare touch it or you'll get cut. The shadow wondered why he was stuck with the mischevious ones and thought there must be more to life. Bravely he stepped into the night.

The moon is glittering like the stars glimmering at night.  The tower has chipped bricks and is very dangerous.

A sudden a glow popped out of a cupcake window.  Slowly and carefully the shadow crept to the library. He was astonished when he made it to the light. Tall towers of books stood crooked all around.

His eyes were caught by the glittering light.  Fluttering sparkles dropped from her sparkling eyes.  He had found what he had been looking for.

Suddenly the warmth in his heart died as the candle flame got whooshed out.  Everything was black.  In despair the shadow collapsed, cuddling the base of the lonely candle.

Whisps of smoke are moving closer and they emerge as a shadow.   He looks in wonder.  She is alive!

What are you doing for Earth Hour?

What will you be doing for Earth Hour on March 23rd 2013 at 8.30?
Is one hour enough?
What can you promise to do EVERY DAY to help look after our Earth?

Write a comment to share your promise. It might be something like turning off the lights when you leave the room. It might be turn the tap off or even pick up rubbish when you see it.

We are a team and imagine if we all made and kept a promise to look after the Earth?
What would happen then?

Sam's Home Learning

Sam does amazing things at home for the family - even to the point of dressing up in a chef's hat to cook dinner. In his home learning book Sam wrote all about his task and I thought we should put it on the blog.

Jojo's Home Learning

Mum, Emily, and I went to the Flower Show. This is called a Bonsai Garden, and it has a rising sun behind it. This is a symbol of Japan, and the rising sun is on the Japanese flag. We met a winner of one of the Gold awards. He was on T.V with his mum. He told us he finished his garden half an hour before the judging, and didn't clean his mess untill just before the judges arrived. My favourite garden was the spiral water garden. That had a gold award too.

Maths Strategies

Harriet has used number bonds to add a huge list of numbers together.

Maths Strategies

Josephine has also been looking at using number bonds to 10 to help her add lots of numbers.

Cultural Rules

Maths Strategies

Mahora has been using number bonds to 10 to add large lists of numbers.

Cultures rules

We have been looking at what rules people have around food.  Here are some that I found out.

If you are left-handed in Iran and the host gives you a right-handed fork by mistake you just eat with your right hand. Got ya.

English people think it is okay for the Americans to eat fried chicken with their hands if there are no utensils around.

In many parts of Scotland most children aren't home after dinner because lunch is called dinner.

Bella's holiday

We went to Moeraki and we stayed in a motel for 4 days with my family and friends. We went to Fleur's for my mum's birthday. We went to the beach everyday and we had fun. By Bella

We have been weiring character descriptions of a shadow from a short movie.  I have posted Bella's but click on the link to see some more.
http://our-writing-rocks.blogspot.co.nz/

His eyes were drooping down  as he walked really smooth and slow.  He didn't  think he should be there.  His long skinny body moved silently through the dark village.  It is a mystery where he is supposed to be.
