#Kidsedchatnz - Twitter for kids: Gaming

Out class has not been inbvolved in the Twitter-for-kids #kidsedchatnz this year but last year we did.  The topic for conversation this week is GAMING!  I know some of you will want to take part.

The 'Chat' takes place during Daily 5 on Thursday 2-3pm.  Before you participate, you will need to do some preparation.  Take a look at the questions and the challenges.

1. Complete one of the challenges.
2. Prepare a 'Tweet Sheet' answer for one of the questions.

If you have completed these tasks by Thursday then you will be our Tweeters!

But first let's play some games! 

Before you take part in Kidsedchatnz this week try to do at least one of the following:

Tasks:

• Spend some time in class playing any game (online or traditional eg, Minecraft, Scrabble, Monopoly, Once Upon A Time).
• Build your own game and play it.
• Reinvent a game.
• Fill in the Google Doc for types of games you play in the classroom?
• Art of gaming - produce a piece of art that celebrates gaming.

When you do a task make sure you take some photos or videos to share with other classes during the chat.

Q2. How does gaming help with your learning?

Q3. What qualities/values/skills have you learnt from gaming?

Q4. How many learning games are being used in your classroom and which of these are the best to play?

Q5. What makes a game fun, interesting and educational?

Q6. If you could reinvent a game, what would you choose to add or change and why?

Q7. Does your class use gaming to collaborate or connect with others children from your school or elsewhere?

Q8. Do you read books or watch videos about gaming, how does this make you a better gamer or learner?

Q9. If your teacher could introduce 1 game into the classroom, what should it be and how would it be used for learning?

Let's get ready for Term 2

Last term we learned how to work as a team.  We know how to choose good targets and have worked towards achieving them.  In the last week of term, we took a risk and ran KidsAKO workshops for Rooms 3 & 8.  It was MAGIC!  You can do anything.

I am thinking we are ready to do something even more amazing.  I wonder what it could be....

What's up for this term:

Writing - instructions, explanations & movie / workshop scripts

Reading - heaps of information books and even more books of your own choice

Maths - moving into multiplication & division, measurement

Te Reo - days & months, counting over 10, telling the time, my birthday

Science:  What is a scientist?  What do they do? Lots of experiments!

ICT: Explain Everything, Movie making, Twitter, Blogging

Learning:  Targets, planners, independence, AKO - Kids Cafe

Aaahhh - I know we have heaps of exciting thing to do and learn together during Term 2.  I bet you have lots of ideas for us as well.  I can't wait to hear them.  :)

Kidsedchatnz Topic: Sports

SPAMMERS:
We will not be using our #kidsedchatnz hashtag anymore because of spammers.  They saw that we were trending (That is we were very popular and busy tweeting) so they added their own tweets that were quite rude.  As a result we are on the Kidswedchatnz list and can follow that way.  Only the people on the list can be seed so it will be safe.

Twitter focus Week 4: Reading

Welcome to our first official Twitter session on #kidsedchatnz.

This week we will be focussing on reading.

Q1: Why is reading an important skill to learn in school?
Q2: How can you become a better reader?
Q3: What are some of your favourite books you have read?

Choose a question to answer in your draft book.  Remember you are only allowed to use 40 characters - including punctuation.  You should include the hashtag #kidsedchatnz at the end so people know we are part of the conversation. 

Remember that lots of different schools will be joining in and reading our tweets.  :)
