Send an e-mail from home

Isaac has been testing out his ICT challenges by sending an e-mail from hoe. He attached this photo.

Jeremy's Homework

Check this out.....
Here is my home learning model. It is a model of a house [history]. There is grass, sand and dirt for the roof because that's what olden day houses look like. The framing is cardboard because it  is a model!

Meet the House Hippo - is this an endangered animal?

Whip off down to Wix School - let the quadblogging begin!

Here it is - day one of writing effective comments on our quadblogging buddy blogs.

Our first school to focus on is Wix.  Remember what you found out about them and think carefully about the comments you write.

1.  Are they positive and encouraging comments?
2.  Are they questioning comments?
3.  Are they constructive comments?  (what they could improve)
4.  Do they make sense and have correct spelling / punctuation?
5.  Would you feel good to get this comment on your post?

What did we think at the beginning?

At the very start of our inquiry on 'Time is running out!' we stood on a line to show what we thought.  We had to be A+ adventurous to stand by ourselves for what we believed and A+ articulate to explain  the reason for our opinion.

Allana is interested to see if our opinions change as we progress through our inquiry.

Here are some reasons to support our opinions.

Jess explained that we should preserve animals for future generations.

Phelix thought that it was important to look after both insects and mammals as they are both part of nature.

Isabella thought about the consequences of having no bees - we would have no honey!

This is a really cool symmetry game that I got straight from our Quadblogging Team at Wix Primary.  Thanks guys, it will really support what we have been learning in class.

24,002 Blog Visitor Party

We celebrated 24,002 visitors to our blog on Friday.

We had to think carefully about how to say this number and think it is a pretty large number of visitors.  Thanks to Eli and his mum for the yummy fudge and Graeson and his mum for the chocolate cake.

Let's plan another party for our new target - 30,000!

Time has run out for these fossils!

Wonderings - time is running out!

If we believe that time is running out for the endangered and threatened species - what do we want to find out?  Record your wonderings on this wallwisher.  You might have more than one wondering.

We will try to answer these wonderings during our in inquiry.
Make sure you add your name at the top of your wondering.

2 x Table Poem

Isabella has a really cool way that you can learn your 2x tables. Have fun trying and write her a comment to say how you are going.

Wonky Donkey Adjectives

We listened to the Wonky Donkey on Allana's iPad and thought carefully about the adjectives (describe a noun) that were used.  In our writing for explanations this term we will need to use more specific and scientific adjectives to describe things.

Take a look at our work...

Angry Verbs

Out teacher checks out lots of good ideas from other teachers on Twitter and she got this great idea.

We played Angry Birds and thought about what verbs are and how adverbs add information to how the birds were doing things.

See our display and find the verbs in a bubble and the adverbs underlined.

Learn your 11x Table Poem

Here is another 11x table poem but from Chloe.  You can tell what lots of us are working on.

Learn your 11x Tables Poem

We wrote poems to help us learn our tables.  I hope you enjoy this one from Georgia.  Write her a comment to tell her what you think.

Check out what Isabella found!

On her holiday in the North Island, Isabella found some very large caterpillars and butterflies.  I have posted the butterfly image that she sent me.

Isabella has completed one of her Term 2 ICT challenges by e-mailing something to us at school.  You could get a head-start on yours by writing her an effective comment.

Check out Street Talk

Russel Street School - Street Talk

This school has some really great ideas for using technology in our learning and sharing with the world.  Take a look at their Street Talk.  What would we need to learn and practise if we wanted to try something like this in Term 3?

Quadblogging - what's it all about?

I have signed us up to be part of a Quadblogging Team.  Take a look at this video to find out what it is all about.

I am waiting eagerly to find out who might be in our Quadblogging Team and where they come from.  Write a comment to tell me what countries you might like the rest of our team to be coming from!

Visit our Blog Posters

Our challenge in Term 2 is to get more people visiting our blog and leaving commnents.
To do this we might need to advertise our blog - starting with our families.
One of your ICT challenges is to develop an advertising poster for our blog in Comic Life.

What skills will you need?
What workshops will we have to run?
Who can you get good ideas from...?

ACTION:

Check out his blog and write him a message to say what is effective about his poster.

Write a comment on this post about what you think we should use for an effective poster.  Try using the Junior School tool - a fist list.  That means one idea for each finger.

Senior Choices Term 1

For the last five weeks of Term 1, the senior learning team opted into Senior Choices.  They included things like our gardening team, mosaics, checking out the iPads, gymnastis, science, sports, weaving and Simon's cool band.  Take a look at some of the weaving my team produced and have a listen to the very first performance of the band - with the lead rapper missing!  Oops, the video won't load.  I'll try that again later ..... I bet you can't wait!

Co-ordinates for maths - yipee

Our Asttle test results showed we need to learn about how we can use co-ordinates to find a position on a map. This is exciting because we get to play Battle Ships, draw things and play games in maths this week.

Here are a couple of ICT games you can play.  Remember they can also be acccessed on our maths tab at the top of the blog.

Billy Bug 1 - Feed Billy by putting in the correct co-ordinate.
Dinosaur Hunt - Search for bones by using the co-ordinates.
Catch the Fly - Experiment to see what happens in different quadrants!  This one is tricky.
