John Key in the Secret Garden
John Key visited the Secret Garden and talked to a few students about their garden. He talked to them about why they like having their own garden.
People talked to him about worm pee and how it helps the garden - we gave him a bottle of worm pee. He had a piece of lettuce and talked to special visitors who help and try very hard to support the Secret Garden.

Visit the Secret Garden
Check out some of our class visiting the Secret Garden today at lunch time. As you can see, the garden is looking amazing. We couldn't count all the monarch caterpillars on the plants - there were too many.
Make sure you pop down to check it all out. I wonder who thinks they can count all those stripy wriggly caterpillars?
Visit the ECO Team Website.

Spud in a Bucket
Have you been to the office to get your very own spud and bucket? Get it planted as soon as possible to gain the most growth. We will be checking out the spuds on Picnic Day.
There will be prizes for the most spuds, the biggest spud and the ugliest spud.
Make sure you get yours growing and all the money raised goes to The Secret Garden so we can begin some more cool projects.

Making Scarecrows
Zanada plans to make a number of scarecrows in Term Two. One with the Green Fingers (Secret Garden Team), another with the Juniors in Choice and Challenge and a third as an ECO Challenge with anyone who is interested.
Bring along a hat, long sleeved shirt, some trousers or even a 'bus vest' for your scarecrow. Remember that you will not get these things back but they are a donation to the Secret Garden. What creative things might your scarecrow need? (apron, hat, walking cane, gloves, carrot...)
There will be a school challenge to name these scarecrows. Make sure you get involved, help make a scarecrow, get to know them and select the best name.

Happy harvest - from my garden.
I visited The Secret Garden this morning and everything has been GROWING! We will have to harvest the last of the allotments then dig them all over and begin again. You should have seen the weeds!
Yesterday I took my Christmas present out into the garden and picked lots of produce. Can you recognise anything in my basket? I wonder how many different plants we can name in comments below. Isabella, I know you are watching and will be the first to respond. Who else is checking out the blog before school?
Bonus points for anyone who can tell me what this type of basket is called!

Need:
1. Rounds of cardboard
2. Rounds of carpet
3. Newspapers
4. Soil
5. Worms
6. Water
We need to find out what worms eat so we can make some food collection buckets. Our worms will need feeding each day we go over to the garden. Write comment to tell us what they like to eat.

The Secret Garden Club
The Secret Garden Club had its first meeting today. The executive (leaders) have been appointed from Year 6 - Anja, Anna, Macaulay, Jack G and Cameron. There will be 'Feed and Meet' at 12 on Friday next, where we will plan the action for the next week, but start collecting seeds and plants for your winter crops like broad beans, cabbages or broccoli.
1. Allotments were allocated to Garden Club Teams
2. Bricks were placed to show individual gardens
2. Weeding has begun

There are still five allotments available to senior students, but you must be serious and ready for work at lunch times. Check in with the Room 9 leaders and talk to Allana if you are up for the challenge.
I will be available to go gardening second lunch this Friday, so bring your gummies and a label for your spot.
Leave a comment with your ideas about what we could do next in our Secret Garden.

Springston Secret Garden
We went with Sandy to check out how our garden is growing. The corn was huge and the artichokes were mosters. Can you see us hiding?
Sandy is helping us roast the artichokes and we will taste them next lunch time.
