Work on Words: Free Rice

This is a great way to build your vocabulary at the same time as giving rice to the hungry.
Work your way through the words.  Remember to write any extra special or 'magical words' in your own personal dictionary.

Daily 5 for teachers

Yippee - Alice and I taught the teachers about Daily 5 today.  They loved the photos and videos you took last term and looked at all the resources you use and your 'Wild Reader's Notebooks'.

I am sure that we will have lots of teachers visiting our class to see what Daily 5 looks like in real life! They are all really excited and want to try it with their own classes.  Well done team - Daily 5 rocks!

The Reading Disease

Waka Endeavour has a disease.

The disease is getting to be worse. We might have to
stay at home!

Someone had to stay at home and they had to
read 30 books!

That is the reading disease.

Reading Bug

The terrible reading disease has hit us. We are obsessed with reading a book. We sneak in edge reading and a long time of reading because we have built up our stamina. We can even read a lots of books in a little number of days.

This is a terrible reading disease and where will it strike next?  By Quaid

Reading Bug

There is terrible news. Everyone in Room 4 at Springston School has got the reading dieasese. They can not get their noses out of a book. Some of them are stealing free minutes to edge read! So beware, the reading disease will come to you if you always have your nose in a book.

Reading Disease really a BUG!

I would like to make a public announcement.

Scientists have discovered that the so-called Reading Disease is actually a bug and should now be called 'The Reading Bug'.  Further research is being done to establish if 'The Reading Bug' is dangerous or actually beneficial.  We will keep you updated with information and photos as we recieve them.

The Reading Disease is spreading!

Breaking news!
21st February 2014,

Wake Endeavour have got a disease.  They can't stop reading books.  Every nose is in the middle of a book and the teacher has to keep sending them to the library.  We hope their parents don't mind if they read all weekend.

This disease is contagious. It is spead by the sharing of books so watch out.

The symptoms are constant reading of books, collecting magical words and the frequent visiting of the library.  If you are suffereing these symptoms then you might have contracted 'The Reading Disease'.  You should speak to your teachr or closest librarian urgently.

Caught - Spot during Daily 5

Spot was caught today during Daily 5 doing all the right things.

During Read to Buddy he was sitting EEKK - elbow to elbow, knee to knee.  Can you see the book in the middle so that he and Kiwi can both see?  They were using quiet voices so we could all build our stamina.

Later on in the session Spot was caught Reading to Self.  Can you see that he got started straight away and was reading all the time?  He remembered to take his book box with him and even got ear-muffs to help him concentrate.

Great work Spot the Dog!

Voracious Reading

What does voracious reading look like? Just imagine you were STARVING and I put your favourite food in front of you. What would happen? It might look a bit like this!

Voracious reading is reading like there will be no books tomorrow Like you are starving for a book.   Make sure you are a voracious reader to build your comprehension and build your vocabulary.

Jojo is reading to self for fluency

Josephine helped show the class how they could use a photo babble to improve their fluency.  That is to make sure their reading does NOT sound like a robot.  Listen to the page from her book.

Jess - Daily 5 Writing

Jess got this idea from her Writing Seeds Book.  She wrote about it during Daily 5 Work on Writing and even edited her work so it was ready to publish.  It only took her a couple of days because she worked so hard and was very motivated to finish it.  Well done Jess - great writing.

10 minutes reading stamina without you (GOOD)

We managed 10 minutes without Mrs Taylor for our reading to self stamina with Mrs Scarlet. We enjoyed it but it wasn't as good as 11:21. It was amazing but we were still enjoying it really well.
