Explaining lines of symmetry

Lines of symmetry - the challenge is to make your own movie or explanation of symmetry.  You will need to follow these steps.

1.  Take 5-7 clear photographs with examples of symmetry in the classroom and playground
2.   Identify how many lines of symmetry there are - 1, 2, horizontal, vertical, diagonal, multiple
4.  Insert the images into a drawing programme and add the lines of symmetry
5.  Insert the images into iMovie - explaining the learning point

Check out the rap this teacher made for his kids.  I am sure you could make a better explanation for the kids to learn about symmetry.

Improving Team Work

This morning we looked at a video of us doing a team activity and we were not using many of our team skills.

We made a list of the things we saw that were not using team skills.  We then made a list of what we would expect to see if we were all in the waka and working as a team.

Here is a picture of our ideas.

We were much better at completing the task after we had unpacked what we wanted to see in our team activity.  Take a look at our video.

What makes a team work?

Check out one of our teams from yesterday's activity.  Give them some advice on what makes a team work - especially if you are waiting for your turn?

Bar Graph:
Clear title
Numbers on the lines starting at 0
X and Y axis labelled
Ruler used to draw bars

Team Work:
Listen to others
Share ideas
Take turns
Carry out your job
Encourage others

Who are Waka Endeavour?

We are looking at who we are.  What does our name really mean?

First we had to find out what endeavour meant.  This is what we came up with.  This means we have to have a goal and be working towards it.

To be 'In the Waka' we all need to be a team.  We work towards the same goal and all paddle in the same direction.  If someone falls out the waka, we need to stop and help them back in again.  We will reach our goal more quickly in the Waka than if we were on our own.

The problem is, a waka needs some paddles.  We are still thinking about the key things we believe in.  They will become our guidelines - not rules but things we follow.  We are beginning to think that we are all teachers and learners in out class so AKO could be one.  Give 100% effort might be another.  Showing respect to people and things is really important in Waka Endeavour.

Why don't your write a comment to share what you believe would make an effective learning team?

When's your birthday?

Here we are ordering ourselves according to our birthday.  It was really hard to do without talking.  Our first try was nearly two minutes but we got the time down to 15 seconds.  It is amazing what we can do as a team!

Kaylee and Mya did a great job of being leaders and helping us get organised on this task.

Testing out our KidsAKO workshops

Wow, wow, wow. Check out the team testing their KidsAKO workshops on other kids. I love the way they included everyone, thought like a teacher and managed the learning. Watch this space for Kids AKO with Weedons School tomorrow!

Agents of change

Teamwork today!

We have had a great day of teamwork.
We did lots of helping.
We loved to listen to new ideas.
Listening was the best part of team-work
Our favorite subject was making pancakes.
We talked to each other to get the job done. Our team leaders read the instructions.

How did this group 'Break Down'?

Oops birds - bad move!
These birds made some poor choices, what were they?
How did they treat the new person to their group?
What were the consequences of their choices?
Who was harmed?
What would they need to do to put it right.
What have they learned to do next time?

Different cultures - different manners!

How are your manners?  Would you offend anyone if you went to eat in a different country?  Try this quick quiz to see how well you do.

Shared morning tea - rude or what?
